I think the hybrid approach will be the best option in the climate zones that I operate in here in BC. My region includes the colder end of zone 5, zone 6 and a few houses in zone 7a and, even using heat pumps, all electric homes are a nightmare to maintain in terms of the utility bills.
That attachment you posted sums things up very well and reflects the reality in the colder parts of the country and the difference in fuel costs.
