We are modelling several houses with basement suites where there are large windows through the concrete foundation in light wells, and the area of those exceeds the area of pony wall.
It appears that when using entering this into H2K the windows are all automatically applied to the pony wall area. If the window area exceeds the pony wall area then this error in the first two screenshots is thrown in this order (first two screenshots) I have not found a work around and have never encountered this before.
We can clear the error by making the foundation areas with large windows be modelled as additional pony wall (picture 3), adding to that area. I'm wondering if there is a "proper" procedure for this, and also wondering if my typical modelling procedure that just has us nesting the windows for the basement under the basement section in H2K is incorrect.
The error persists if we change this from the walkout calc (as there is realistically only a suite access) to just a foundation and average out the pony wall characteristics to apply them to the basement as a height and area.
Hi Benjamin, your total above-grade foundation wall area (including the pony wall and the foundation area above grade) must be greater than the total window and door area of the foundation. Can you confirm what those numbers are based on your current takeoff?
Also, are you using the new ERS walkout modelling procedure to model the walkout?
From Donald Fast:
Hot2000 puts all basement windows into the frame wall area. So the fix as you suggested is to include that calculated area as part of frame wall.
tks Donald! :)
