Does anyone know generally what the primary heating system is in new MURB constructions in provinces where gas is predominant?

I have seen Magic-Pak units predominantly in the MURB's that I have done. We have done some buildings with a mix of standard gas fired furnace and mini-splits for the units that needed AC.

It is typical to see combo /combi units due to the fact that an air handler does not require to be vented.  Energy Star and Netzero require these systems to be P9 tested.  They often are an air handler and a tankless unit and/ or AFUE rated boiler.

Be mindful of efficiencies and requirements.  MagicPak has not been used in Ontario as often as it used to years ago because it is an 80% efficiency.  Compared to most at 95%.  OBC SB12 requires a minimum that it is of the condensing type.

Many will also be combined with an A/C or ASHP unit.  Along with an ERV/HRV.

Given your location, I'm guessing that the province you are referring to is Ontario.  Currently, heat pumps with electric backup are a more economical choice than gas in Ontario.  And, if you can convince them to forgo gas completely, they also save the gas service charge.

Gas is still far more cheaper to run in Ontario.  If all electric the SB12 is alao far more stringent in terms of envelope, meaning more cost to the build.
