GHG Portal & Added Solar

Might not be the first SO/EA to run into this, but wanted to share with CACEA the following.

Earlier this week, we experienced and helped NRCan identify a bug with the GHG portal and homes that had an existing PV system modeled for the D file and then installed more PV for the E file.  These E files aren’t triggering the solar upgrade in the GHG portal, which means the grant is not being triggered for the home owners.

I contacted NRCan directly when the amount was showing as $0, and we got an answer back today from one of the members of the manual eval team saying that there is an issue with how the portal triggers grants for PV systems and that they’ll let us know once it has been corrected.  I'll post an update here when we've heard back that it has been addressed.

I will update that this is still an issue with the portal, we have attempted to submit another couple homes with additional solar over the D file, and they still trigger a $0 rebate.  No word yet on when it may be fixed.  The only response we've seen at all is the bulletin from last month from NRCan "reminding" us how and where to enter the nominal capacity in the H2K file.

Figured I'd add an update since this post got a couple responses this week.

I will share with the members.  As soon as you hear about an resoltion please email me at manager@cacea.ca.

    Thanks for flagging this

While we wait for a fix, would it be reasonable to update the D to remove the existing solar, and only model the additional new solar array on the E? Assuming this would then trigger the rebate?

Can't say for sure, we've also had issues submitting E files where the only upgrade is solar also not triggering as upgrades in the GHG portal.

We recently completed an E file on a previous home that is a CHBA NZE labeled home from last year, and the portal also wouldn't accept the D file with only upgrades for PV (homeowner only entered GHG to add additional solar for a new EV charger), so I ended up having to put in an upgraded wall (D walls were already around R25...) solely to make the D file submittable... Just more nonsense from the portal day after day!

Hello, some members stated that if you add a second array you should be able to trigger the grant.  Have you tried adding it as a second system?

Do you mean adding in a blank array?

A couple of the files we have not triggering rebate amounts have multiple systems in the file (due to layouts), some of them also had existing solar and added more.

Just tried putting in a blank array one one file (making it the 4th array total) and it still triggered $0 rebates, so for our purposes, I don't think this is a workaround.

If a house already has a PV array and wishes to expand it using the CGHP, we have to model the existing array in the existing home and "ADD" a second array in the upgrades with a min 7 KW (5 KW min). The array upgrade should trigger. We were successful in doing this.

The only error we now see on the portal is what should be the array at 5000$, comes out as another upgrade for the same 5000$ amount.

In the example below: existing PV = 5KW on "Power Gen" tab, add the the TOTAL PV KW on the upgrade main screen

you would have identical data for the first PV system in both existing and upgrades

And then we simply add the NEW array on the second tab on the UPGRADE only.

Enter numbers in the second array that would add up to a 5KW array:

Array area: 421 ft2 Slope: estimate roof slope in degrees Azimuth: 0 is South, 45 is Southeast or Southwest, 90 is East or West Module Type: User Specified Module Efficiency: 18.5% Temp: 109F Coefficient: 0.27 Misc Losses: 5% Other Losses: 0% Inverter Efficiency: 98% Grid Absorption: 100%
