CACEA, together with our partners — the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI), the HVAC Designers of Canada, and the Thermal Environmental Comfort Association (TECA) — are coming together to provide an overview of the fundamentals and practical application of single-zone cooling design.

As this topic is not explicitly addressed within CSA F280, this session will provide clarity on building code considerations, review key design fundamentals, address common misconceptions, and explore a real-world example of cooling load measurement and implementation.

This webinar is offered at no charge and is open to Energy Advisors, HVAC designers, HVAC contractors, building officials, Authorities Having Jurisdiction, and other industry stakeholders.

Join our speakers, Ben Giudici from Riverside Energy Systems and Wil Beardmore from Bluewater Energy for a presentation on electrification that tackles one of the biggest hurdles in going all-electric: the electrical service.

As more homeowners move away from fossil fuels, many assume electrification means costly service upgrades. This session will show how smart, power-efficient electrical design can make Part 9 residential electrification both achievable and affordable. Ben and Wil will cover why electrical design matters, the key challenges and barriers facing the industry (from CEC service sizing versus utility standards to EMS certification gaps and inconsistent Code interpretation), and practical demand-mitigation strategies, right-sizing air-source heat pumps, applying CEC 8-106 load management, and more, backed by real-world case studies.

Retrofit Refresh: Best Practices for Existing Home Audits (19 Aug 2026)

This training program is designed to provide a deep understanding of the existing home audit process - providing practical, “boots on the ground” guidance and lessons learned for each building and administrative component; highlight potential modelling challenges; and offer information that supports the work of existing home EAs – contributing to confidence in the delivery of consistent EA services.

THE INSTRUCTOR:

Liam Butters, Owner, Ecology Consulting

Liam is a Professional Engineer and CEM and spent the last 15-years working in the industrial and construction sectors. He has extensive hands-on experience as an REA, and will share his deep understanding of the ERS, existing home evaluations, and residential HVAC design.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
• Newly licensed EAs
• REAs seeking a refresh of the existing home audit process
• EA candidates who have ideally passed NRCan’s Foundation and EA (House) exams
• Industry stakeholders who want to better understand the existing home audit process.

NOTE: This program assumes participants have a general understanding of building science, building processes and materials, and the Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) EnerGuide Rating System requirements, processes, HOT2000 modelling, and on-site practices, e.g., running a blower door.
