November is National Radon Month and the Canadian Association of Consulting Energy Advisors (CACEA), in partnership with the Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (CARST), has designed a training program for Energy Advisors.

Radon, a naturally occurring radioactive gas found in soil, rock, and water, is invisible, odourless, and tasteless, and is the #1 cause of lung cancer after smoking. Health Canada recommends that all homes be tested for radon, and it is referenced in National, Provincial, and Territorial Building Codes. EAs should understand the science, impact, and solutions as they are in an ideal position to provide guidance and information about this dangerous substance.

EAs will learn:

  • The sources and health implications
  • Building science considerations
  • Retrofit and new construction approaches
  • Testing, mitigation solutions, and control measures
  • Their responsibilities and contributions
  • Current research and resources

Meet the Presenters:

  • Andrew Laroche, AmeriSpec of Mississauga (Facilitator)
  • Anne-Marie Nicol PhD, Simon Fraser University
  • Toby Smith MEA, Building Knowledge Canada
  • Pam Warkentin, Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists (CARST)
